Boston Terrier History.....
The Boston Terrier is one of the few truly American breeds. "The American Gentleman" it was developed in the late 1870's in Boston, Massachusetts. He was bred from the Bulldog and the English  WhiteTerrier. In 1893 the Boston Terrier Club gained membership to the American Kennel Club. The Boston's popularity grew to become one of the most beloved breeds in America, and in 1979, became the offical state dog of Massachusetts.
Because the Boston was bred as a pet and not as a working dog, the breed's characteristics make it an excellent house dog. They do well in relatively small spaces and  require a minimum amount of excercise.  They do however require the companionship of humans and don't do well in kennel situations. They  are a breed that do not like extreme heat or cold and  are not physically or psychologically  constituted to be outdoor dogs. The average life span for a well bred and cared for Boston is between 11-13 years.
There is no greater joy than choosing, raising and learning to love a Boston Terrier. They are easy to train, easy to love and easy to live with! Whether you exhibit him in the show ring, at Obedience Trials,Pet Therapy or only to your friends and neighbors, you can be truly proud of this little gentleman from Boston.
